Digital Legacy Lab

Welcome to our new Digital Legacy Lab – opened in October, 2025! This new space is designed to provide our patrons with many tools necessary to convert their family collections into current digital formats for preservation and sharing!

Have you considered YOUR family’s digital legacy?

Behind those formats, we also have collections of analog items, such as photographs, negatives, VHS tapes, 8mm film, and audio cassettes. And don’t forget physical documentation, such as journals, scrapbooks, and original correspondence that need to be digitized and shared with other family members.

All of the above formats are degrading over time and someday may be lost forever. Converting our physical and analog items to current digital formats can be a daunting task, depending on the size of your family’s priceless collection – but our Digital Legacy Lab can help - providing free access to equipment that will:

• Digitize (scan) photographs, negatives, scrapbooks, books, and documents.

• Digitize analog film and audio formats: 8mm/Super8 film, VHS tapes, and audio cassettes.

• Convert/transfer older digital files into current formats for preservation and access/sharing purposes: Photo cards (SD, XD, micro, etc.), and CDs/DVDs.

At present, the above formats are the only ones our equipment can convert, but please check back periodically since we hope to grow the Digital Legacy Lab as new conversion equipment becomes available. Ask about our recently added software that will make editing your digital videos a breeze!

Note about DATA MIGRATION: Once you convert your older material into current formats, make a schedule to check on your newly created files every few years to ensure they are still viable. As technology changes, you may need to migrate the data in these files into future formats.
